Spicing up the political game / Animando el juego político

Last Saturday night, on the municipal pre-election day, a group of friends headed out onto the streets in downtown Madrid, somehow in an improvised way and carrying laser pointers, with the harmless intention of spicing things up a little bit in a symbolic way. We just wanted to bug those politicians who had been watching us from the media they had hired to advertise their campaign, those politicians wearing faces of such feigned kindness and fashioning their commercial slogans.

We focused on those we like the least, those who had been sharing the power since the beginning of democracy, those who are still comfortably established in a corrupted bipartisan system that allows them to pass the power on to each other feigning antagonism, like actors in a bad play performed in front of an uneducated, barely demanding audience.

We imagine our city as a giant football field where PP and PSOE are playing a decisive game. And, as it is customary in this sort of sports competitions, we play the role of unsatisfied spectators who point their annoying beams at players in order to attract attention to themselves.

After roaming for two hours, we took a good look at the state of siege Madrid’s pre-election night was in; a lot of police and helicopters were patrolling downtown, and one could feel an unusual oppressive sensation for such a warm Saturday night in Madrid.

Luckily, thanks to the will of the citizens, this final between PP and PSOE was not played at the end… This is a great moment for democracy.

We want to thank our friends Montaña, Alex and Pablo for the help and the walk.

Well, this one is the «kind» version of the intervention… There are other possible interpretations that we leave to your imagination…
