(Plastic) Full Moon / Luna Llena (de plástico)

We saw how a giant moon was made in China to light dark nights. We also know other artists whom we respect who have used large celestial bodies in their work. That means that, for this occasion and this occasion only, we shall not be completely original in our proposal for a large moon. Hence, we’d better make it quite “in our style.”

Our moon shall also be quite present in the city’s profile. However, it won’t be kind. On the contrary, the idea is to make it look menacing in order to experience an unsettling feeling when staring at it. This shall serve as a warning for the environmental threat hanging over our heads.

For it is not such a dystopian fancy to image the moon full of our plastic waste… we feel that the next space trips will be loaded with everything we cannot or do not want to recycle in our civilized countries.

For its creation, we will start from a giant ball structure made of chicken wire. We think it can be created with the triangular sections of a geodesic dome. Every separated part will be filled with plastic waste of all kinds sewn to the mesh with wire. Once all the parts are ready, and with the use of a crane, they will be attached together until obtaining the intended round shape.

The ball will be covered by a net that will prevent any container from falling out and will hang from a high crane that will raise this recycle moon to the top of the city.

It will be lighted with beams which will change their color temperature to turn it into a golden sun during the daytime.

We hope to be able to materialize this soon because 2019 marks the 50th anniversary of the first humans landing on the Moon on July 20.

Vimos que en China se habían hecho una luna gigante para noches oscuras, y conocemos a otros artistas a los que respetamos, que han empleado astros de grandes dimensiones en su trabajo, eso significa que, por una vez y sin que sirva de precedente, no estamos siendo totalmente originales al plantear una gran esfera lunar, así que mas nos vale que la nuestra sea muy «a nuestro estilo».

Nuestra luna también debe estar muy presente en el perfil de la ciudad, pero no va a ser amable, al contrario, la intención es mostrarse como amenazante, para que al mirarla nos intranquilice y sirva de aviso sobre el peligro mediombiental que pende sobre nuestras cabezas.

Y es que imaginar la luna, llena de todos los residuos plásticos que no nos caben en la tierra, es una hipótesis no tan distópica… presentimos que los próximos viajes al espacio irán cargados de todo lo que no podemos o no queremos reciclar en estos paises civilizados en los que vivimos.

Para llevarla a cabo partiremos de una gigante bola hecha con una ligera estructura metálica de malla de gallinero. Hemos pensado que ésta se puede crear a partir de los módulos triangulares de una cúpula geodésicas. Cada pieza, por separado, se llenará de residuos plástico de todo tipo cosidos con alambre a la malla. Cuando estén todas las piezas listas se unirán unas a otras con ayuda de una grua hasta formar la buscada forma circular.

La bola, ira protegida por una red que evite que se desprenda ningún envase, e irá suspendida de una gran grúa que elevará esta luna de reciclaje a lo mas alto del cielo de la ciudad.

Estará uniformemente iluminada con focos, que cambiarán de temperatura de color para convertirla en un sol dorado durante las horas diurnas.
