El pasado mes de septiembre estuvimos en Caracas invitados por la Embajada Espa\u00f1ola para trabajar en Por en Medio de la Calle<\/a>, un festival urbano que celebra cada a\u00f1o la importancia del espacio p\u00fablico como lugar de convivencia ciudadana y que tuvo lugar el 1 de septiembre en el barrio de Chacao en Caracas.<\/p>\n

Como es habitual, al plantearnos la instalaci\u00f3n, intentamos introducir una peque\u00f1a reflexi\u00f3n sobre alg\u00fan tema que nos preocupa, en este caso no iba a ser menos, y elegimos el agua, uno de nuestros asuntos recurrentes.<\/p>\n

Con la pieza\u00a0R\u00edo Port\u00e1til, <\/span><\/strong>quisimos acercar un r\u00edo de agua al centro de Caracas, para lo que tuvimos que envasarla y dejarla en\u00a0reposo, cosa bastante inusual ya que all\u00ed, lo que normal es verla desbordarse por las calles cada vez que llueve. Nosotros quer\u00edamos pararla por una noche para que la gente pudiera sentarse a contemplar su belleza y quiz\u00e1s, a pensar en el valor de este elemento esencial para la vida y el reto que supone acercarla a los ciudadanos, sobre todo\u00a0en las grandes urbes.<\/p>\n

Para conseguir nuestro r\u00edo urbano, creamos un particular caudal de agua cristalina empaquetada en 2.000 bolsas transparentes, en cuyo interior, adem\u00e1s de luz, incluimos muestras de la vida que en ella habita. Cada bolsa era un peque\u00f1o acuario ef\u00edmero, contenedor de peces y plantas, que gracias a la luz adquir\u00eda un valor insospechado.<\/p>\n

Al final de la noche, los transe\u00fantes podr\u00e1n llevarse nuestros peque\u00f1os ecosistemas iluminados, convirtiendo el r\u00edo quieto, en otro que r\u00e1pidamente circul\u00f3 por la ciudad, en la mano de los ni\u00f1os y adultos que quisieron llevarlos a sus casas. Otra parte del r\u00edo se desbord\u00f3, para nuestra sorpresa…<\/p>\n

Esta pieza no hubiera sido posible sin la ayuda de muchos amigos: nuestros incre\u00edbles voluntarios y el\u00a0Taller de Bicicletas<\/a>, que estuvieron trabajando y recolectando hierbas\u00a0con total entrega durante 4 d\u00edas, para conseguir llenar las bolsas; por supuesto, las queridas Mar\u00eda Jos\u00e9 y Anna, de la Embajada que nos trataron como si estuvi\u00e9ramos en casa y nos ayudaron en todo y mucho m\u00e1s, los organizadores del evento Cultura Cachao<\/a> y Platanoverde<\/a> que nos acogieron y ayudaron en la producci\u00f3n con la mayor profesionalidad, tambi\u00e9n los se\u00f1ores de la cisterna de agua que colaboraron desinteresadamente, y a la gente de la calle que, de manera espont\u00e1nea, se ofreci\u00f3 para poder terminar en el menor tiempo. A todos queremos darles un mill\u00f3n de gracias.<\/p>\n

Ahora, al repasar las fotos de esta instalaci\u00f3n y ver el agua dentro de las bolsas, a modo de sacas de dinero, no podemos dejar de pensar en c\u00f3mo algunos gobiernos trafican con este vital elemento, ofreci\u00e9ndolo al mejor postor…<\/p>\n

Last September we were in Caracas invited by the Spanish Embassy to work on In the Middle of the Street <\/a>, an urban festival that each year celebrates the importance of public space as a place of peaceful coexistence and took place on the 1st of September in the Chacao neighborhood in Caracas.<\/p>\n

As usual, as we thought about the installation, we tried to introduce a little reflection regarding an issue which concerns us, in this case we weren\u2019t going to do any less, and we chose water, one of our recurring themes.<\/p>\n

With the piece, Portable River<\/span><\/strong> , we wanted to bring a river of water to the center of Caracas, for which we had to package it and lay it at rest, quite an unusual thing, because there it is normal to see it overflowing the streets every time it rains. We wanted to stop it for one night so that people could sit down and admire its beauty and perhaps, think about the value of this element, essential to life and the challenge presented in bringing it closer to the citizens, especially in the big cities.<\/p>\n

To achieve our urban river, we created our own flow of crystal clear water packaged in 2,000 transparent bags, inside of which, in addition to light, we included samples of the life that dwells in it. Each bag was a small, ephemeral aquarium, a container of fish and plants, which, thanks to the light acquired an unsuspected value.<\/p>\n

At the end of the night, the bystanders could carry away our small, illuminated ecosystems, converting the still river, into another that quickly circulated around the city, in the hands of children and adults who wanted to take them to their homes. Another example of the river overflowing, to our surprise\u2026<\/p>\n

This piece would not have been possible without the help of many friends: our incredible volunteers and the\u00a0 Bicycle Workshop<\/a>, who were working and collecting plants with total dedication for 4 days, in order to be able to fill the bags; of course, dear Mar\u00eda Jos\u00e9 and Anna, from the Embassy who treated us as if we were at home and helped us with everything and so much more, the organizers of the event Cachao Culture<\/a> and Green Banana <\/a> who hosted us and helped with the production very professionally and also the gentlemen from the water storage tank that collaborated selflessly, and to the people on the street that spontaneously offered to help so we could finish in the shortest possible time. We want is to give a million thanks to all of them.<\/p>\n

Now, looking at the photos of this installation and seeing the water inside the bags, as if it were sacks of money, we cannot stop thinking about how some governments traffic in this vital element, offering it to the highest bidder…<\/p>\n
