Parece que al insigne navegante y descubridor, Crist\u00f3bal Col\u00f3n, no lo dejan parar quieto, ni 500 a\u00f1os despu\u00e9s de su muerte.<\/p>\n

Si en el mes de junio, la retirada<\/a> de su escultura de las calles de Buenos Aires puso en pi\u00e9 de guerra<\/a> a las autoridades argentinas, en Madrid, en el 2009, con una crisis econ\u00f3mica ya bien entrada y un ayuntamiento endeudado hasta las cejas, se decidi\u00f3 trasladar el mismo monumento, que en este caso, llevaba 34 a\u00f1os ocupando un lugar de alt\u00edsima visibilidad en el Eje Prado-Recoletos, con unos gastos de casi 4 millones de euros<\/a>, sacados del Fondo Estatal de Inversi\u00f3n Local (FEIL), para mover su ubicaci\u00f3n unos pocos metros y dejarla bien alineada con el centro de la plaza que lleva su nombre. Se llevo a cabo con cargo, no al bolsillo de los madrile\u00f1os, sino al de todos los espa\u00f1oles, por si a alguien le sirve de consuelo.<\/p>\n

Menos mal que tuvo el loable prop\u00f3sito de que los peatones madrile\u00f1os tuvi\u00e9ramos m\u00e1s espacio para transitar, poco cre\u00edble excusa, s\u00f3lo hay que mirar el desproporcionado uso privado que se hace de nuestro espacio p\u00fablico, para ver que no debi\u00f3 ser el verdadero motivo.<\/p>\n

Este corto y costoso paseo, trajo consigo, una vez m\u00e1s, importantes negocios para el sector de la construcci\u00f3n, del tipo de los que generan cantidades de dineros negros<\/a> repartidos \u00abseg\u00fan val\u00eda\u00bb por tesoreros eficientes, con vocaci\u00f3n del carteros<\/a>.<\/p>\n

A modo de recordatorio, en el lugar que anteriormente ocup\u00f3 Col\u00f3n, aun permanece su pedestal. un basamento de granito elevado mas de un metro y rodeado de agua, que ahora vac\u00edo aunque muchos andan ya disput\u00e1ndose sus posibles usos, art\u00edsticos unos y otros no tan bienintencionados<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Este espacio, nos ha venido provocando enormes ganas de intervenirlo desde que qued\u00f3 sin su principal habitante, y por fin, una noche de finales de julio, <\/span> nos decidimos a rendir nuestro personal homenaje al famoso navegante, que tantos r\u00e9ditos ha aportado a la historia de nuestro pa\u00eds, dej\u00e1ndonos en herencia un imperio en el que nunca se pon\u00eda el sol, muy mermado a d\u00eda de hoy por la \u00abcrisis de los mercados\u00bb y la rapi\u00f1a de unos pocos pa\u00edses que se llaman aliados, aunque en realidad hagan funciones de verdugos…<\/p>\n

Para la pieza Col\u00f3n lava m\u00e1s blanco,<\/span> <\/strong>siempre tuvimos en mente al detergente Col\u00f3n, ese de toda la vida, <\/a>el primer producto en polvo<\/a> que seg\u00fan promet\u00eda en su publicidad,\u00a0lavaba m\u00e1s blanco<\/a>, y en cuyo envase m\u00edtico, muchos ni\u00f1os hemos atesorado nuestros m\u00e1s preciados juguetes.<\/p>\n

Quiz\u00e1s sea con esta m\u00e1gica p\u00f3cima, con la que se ha estado lavado el dinero negro de Espa\u00f1a desde sus or\u00edgenes, para convertirlo en otro, m\u00e1s blanco y m\u00e1s l\u00edmpio y de perfecto uso legal.<\/p>\n

Para dar forma a la pieza, creamos una versi\u00f3n actualizada del embase, compramos 50 bidones reciclados, a los que metimos luz y pegamos etiquetas, inspiradas en las que actualmente est\u00e1n en el mercado. Con estos m\u00f3dulos, perfectamente apilables, utilizados a modos de p\u00edxeles luminosos y tridimensionales, construimos una versi\u00f3n simplificada del monumento y la subimos al pedestal, donde por una noche, impuso su luminosa presencia, haciendo competencia a la gris piedra de la escultura original.<\/p>\n

Logramos conquistar con nuestras luces, una aut\u00e9ntica isla en el asfalto de Madrid, con su gran bandera de Espa\u00f1a ondeando al viento y rodeada de edificios emblem\u00e1ticos, entre otros, la sede del PP, nuestro partido en el Gobierno, la Audiencia Nacional, por los que han pasado la mayor parte de los ilustres delincuentes de nuestra historia a rendir cuentas de sus delitos, tambi\u00e9n las sedes de importantes bancos internacional, la Biblioteca Nacional, etc…<\/p>\n

La pieza, permaneci\u00f3 all\u00ed toda la noche, y a la ma\u00f1ana siguiente aun se pod\u00eda ver, erguida y desafiando a los equipos de limpieza que por all\u00ed rondaban sin atreverse a quitarla, por miedo a destruir quiz\u00e1s, la acci\u00f3n publicitaria de una marca que hubiera pagado para ocupar el espacio.<\/p>\n

Por la tarde, un paseante ajeno al contexto, decidi\u00f3 darle un uso acorde a sus intereses personales, utilizando los bidones como cama improvisada en la que se ech\u00f3 una buena siesta, desmontando sin mayor problema, parte de la construcci\u00f3n. El aspecto que daba era realmente el de un naufrago en una isla desierta, con gran bandera incluida y rodeado de agua.<\/p>\n

A nosotros, por supuesto, nos pareci\u00f3 de lo m\u00e1s adecuado de acabara sirviendo a tan saludable fin y encantados dejamos al buen se\u00f1or en su intimidad, sin poder evitar pensar en que si la pieza hubiera tenido una apariencia m\u00e1s art\u00edstica, no hubiera durado ni la mitad de tiempo en uno de los espacios con m\u00e1s visibilidad de la ciudad.<\/p>\n

Y por supuesto gracias sinceras al entra\u00f1able bote de Col\u00f3n compa\u00f1ero de infancia, y que fue nuestro primer referente desde que echamos el ojo al pedestal vac\u00edo. Por cierto, es un magn\u00edfico sitio para exponer al aire libre, con m\u00e1xima accesibilidad y visibilidad… por si a alguien no se le hab\u00eda ocurrido a\u00fan…<\/p>\n

It seems that the famous sailor and discoverer, Crist\u00f3bal Col\u00f3n (Christopher Columbus), cannot be left standing still, even 500 years after his death.<\/p>\n

If in the month of June, the removal<\/a> of his statue from the streets of Buenos Aires put the Argentine authorities on the brink of war<\/a>, in Madrid, in 2009, with an economic crisis already well under way and a town hall in debt up to its eyebrows, they decided to move his monument, which had been occupying a highly visible place on the Prado Recoletos Corridor for 34 years, at a cost of almost 4 million euros<\/a>, drawn from the State Fund for Local Investment (FEIL), to move its location a few meters so that it was well aligned in the center of the square that bears his name. This was done, not only out of the pockets of the people of Madrid, but of all Spaniards, if that serves as consolation to anyone.<\/p>\n

Thank goodness that it was done with the laudable intention that the pedestrians of Madrid, would have more space for transit, an excuse which is only slightly credible, on the other hand, one only has to stop and look at the disproportionate private use of our public space to see that this cannot not be the real reason.<\/p>\n

This small move, brought about, once more, important business for the construction sector, of the kind that generate amounts of monies \u201cblack money<\/a>\u201d distributed \u00abaccording to worth\u00bb by efficient treasurers, with the vocation of postmen<\/a>.<\/p>\n

As a reminder, in the space that Col\u00f3n (Columbus) previously occupied, his pedestal still remains standing, a granite base more than a meter high, now empty, although many are already arguing over its potential uses, some artistic and others not so well-intentioned<\/a>.<\/p>\n

This space, had been provoking an enormous desire within us to act since it has been without its main inhabitant, and, finally, one night at the end of July, we decided to pay our personal tribute to the famous navigator, that has contributed so much revenue to the history of our country, leaving us in inheritance an empire where the sun never sets, very diminished today by the \u00abmarket crisis \u00bb and the pillaging of a few countries that are called allies, although in reality they perform the functions of executioners\u2026<\/p>\n

For the piece Col\u00f3n washes whiter <\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/strong>we always had in mind the<\/strong> lifelong detergent Col\u00f3n, <\/a>, the first powdered product<\/a> that according to its advertising promises,\u00a0washed whiter<\/a>, and in whose mythical packaging, many children have hoarded their most precious toys.<\/p>\n

Perhaps it is with this magical potion, that the Spanish dirty money has been washed of its origins, to convert it into something else, cleaner and whiter and of perfectly legal use.<\/p>\n

To give shape to the piece, we created an updated version of the packaging, we bought 50 recycled containers, which we put lights in and glued labels to, inspired by those that are currently on the market. With these perfectly stackable modules, used in the fashion of bright, three-dimensional pixels, we built a simplified version of the monument and we placed it upon the pedestal, where for one night, it imposed its luminous presence, creating competition for the gray stone of the original sculpture.<\/p>\n

With our lights we were able to conquer, an authentic island in the sea of asphalt that is Madrid, with its giant Spanish flag waving in the wind and surrounded by emblematic buildings, among them, the headquarters of the PP, our governing party, the Spanish Supreme Court, through which have passed the majority of the illustrious offenders throughout our history to be held accountable for their crimes, also the headquarters of important international banks, the National Library, etc…<\/p>\n

It remained there all night, and the next morning you could still see the piece, upright and defying the cleaning crews that passed by there without daring to remove it, for fear of destroying perhaps, the advertising campaign of a brand that would have paid to be there.<\/p>\n

In the afternoon, a passerby outside of the context, decided to use it in accordance with their own personal interest, using the pieces as an improvised bed where they had a good siesta, dismantling without any problem, part of the construction. The aspect was actually that of a shipwrecked person on a deserted island, with a large flag included and surrounded by water.<\/p>\n

To us, of course, we found it to be most appropriate that vit would end up serving as something sohealthy and we were happy to leave the good man his privacy, without being able to avoid thinking about that if the piece would have had a more artistic look, it would not have lasted even half the time in one of the more visible spaces in the city.<\/p>\n

Thanks to our friends Pol, Alex, Amparo, Cris, and Juli\u00e1n for helping us with the assembly and logistics and Paloma for the photos of the day after. And of course sincere thanks to the well-loved container of Colon, childhood companion, which was our first reference point from which we looked at the empty plinth. By the way, it is a magnificent site upon which to expose something to the open air, with maximum accessibility and visibility\u2026 in case it hasn\u2019t occured to anyone yet\u2026.<\/p>\n
