Era nuestra primera incursi\u00f3n con luces en Londres y est\u00e1bamos muy ilusionados, llev\u00e1bamos varios meses hablando con\u00a0Spain Now<\/a>, una organizaci\u00f3n de gesti\u00f3n cultural ejemplar donde las haya, que se encarga de demostrar en Londres, que en Espa\u00f1a, a pesar de los pesares, hay gente creativa haciendo cosas interesante y que merece la pena que se conozcan fuera de nuestras fronteras.<\/p>\n

Ellos hab\u00edan apostado por nosotros invit\u00e1ndonos a llevar a cabo una instalaci\u00f3n que inaugurara su programaci\u00f3n cultural del 2013, por lo que llev\u00e1bamos meses hablando del proyecto… iba a ser algo representativo de nuestra manera de trabajar, sencillo de montar, participativo, y sin dejar de lado el impacto visual y el mensaje… en fin, lo de siempre…<\/p>\n

Pero no pudo ser, por la simple raz\u00f3n de que coincid\u00eda con la inauguraci\u00f3n de Frieze una de las ferias de arte de las vanidades m\u00e1s reconocidas, que m\u00e1s dinero mueve y mas gente \u00abguapa\u00bb atrae con la excusa de la cosa art\u00edstica.<\/p>\n

A esta feria le debe molestar bastante que otras iniciativas art\u00edsticas le resten una min\u00fascula parte de su protagonismo, y mueven sus influencias para que esto no pase, as\u00ed, la gente que da los permisos para instalaciones en el espacio p\u00fablico nos lo neg\u00f3, a 2 semanas del evento.<\/p>\n

Bastante enfadados con la todopoderosa feria, decidimos acudir a sus dominios y hacerles un peque\u00f1o acto de sabotaje, o de pataleta, no demasiado hiriente pero que reflejara nuestro malestar por la situaci\u00f3n inesperada.<\/p>\n

Aprovechando la confianza que la organizaci\u00f3n hab\u00eda depositado en nosotros, y sin contarles demasiado sobre lo que nos tra\u00edamos entre manos, para evitar intranquilizarles innecesariamente, preparamos nuestro material subversivo y viajamos cargados de banderas piratas al pa\u00eds de Sir\u00a0Francis Drake.<\/p>\n

S\u00f3lo pedimos que convocaran, mediante redes sociales, a amigos que deb\u00edan acudir a un punto de reuni\u00f3n cerca de la feria, por la noche, sin especificar qu\u00e9 \u00a0ten\u00edan que hacer.<\/p>\n

Para nuestro\u00a0Desembarco pirata en Londres\u00a0cont\u00e1bamos con 200 banderas negras, estampadas con inquietantes calaveras, e iluminadas con peque\u00f1os foco de luz, quer\u00edamos ilustrar gr\u00e1ficamente lo que pens\u00e1bamos de la gente que organiza ese tipo de ferias\/negocio en las que la calidad art\u00edstica est\u00e1 supeditaba a los caprichos del m\u00e1s puro mercado especulativo.<\/p>\n

Con estas inofensivas armas de protesta, la noche del 16 de octubre, nos presentamos en Regen Park, donde nos esperaban un grupo estupendo de amigos, casi todos espa\u00f1oles, dispuestos a ayudarnos a lo que fuera, y en las condiciones que fueran.<\/p>\n

A las 10 de la noche, aun estaba saliendo la gente de la inauguraci\u00f3n de Frieze y decidimos que era el momento de empezar a montar nuestra barricada de banderas pirata, sujetas al seto perimetral del parque.<\/p>\n

Ya hab\u00edamos logrado colocar unas 170, cuando vimos que desaparec\u00edan a velocidad vertiginosa a nuestras espaldas. Retrocedimos para ver qu\u00e9 pasaba, y nos dimos de bruces con personal de seguridad de la feria, que se afanaban en hacer desaparecer las comprometedoras banderas.<\/p>\n

Nos pidieron los permisos de instalaci\u00f3n, y al decirles que no los ten\u00edamos y que hab\u00edamos acudido a la llamada de una convocatoria an\u00f3nima por internet, nos exigieron que o desmont\u00e1ramos todo lo que aun quedaba instalado o llamaban inmediatamente a la polic\u00eda. \u00a0Nosotros, sin mediar apenas palabras, soltamos el material y nos pusimos a andar, con toda la dignidad y\u00a0sin mirar hacia atr\u00e1s, como si fu\u00e9ramos invitados a la feria que se retiran a casa, despu\u00e9s de una dura jornada de arte y negocio…<\/p>\n

Siendo una intervenci\u00f3n tan r\u00e1pida, no pudimos conseguir el mejor material fotogr\u00e1fico, pero esperamos que las im\u00e1genes que tom\u00f3\u00a0Gustavo Sanabria<\/a> esa noche, ayuden a ilustrar nuestra gamberra \u00a0acci\u00f3n de guerrilla.<\/p>\n

Queremos dar un mill\u00f3n de gracias a todos los amigos de Spain Now, que nos ayudaron y apoyaron, confiando sin cuestionar Antonio ( ojal\u00e1 no hayamos sido un gran problema para ti), Elisa, Toni, Nina… un placer trabajar con vosotros. A nuestro querido\u00a0Koldo<\/a> al que este trabajo sirvi\u00f3 de bautismo de fuego para su posterior colaboraci\u00f3n en Durham, a todos los voluntarios que acudieron sin dudar a nuestra misteriosa convocatoria, y a nuestra querid\u00edsima Cris, que una vez m\u00e1s volvi\u00f3 a trabajar con nosotros, de esa manera tan generosa que tiene de hacerlo. No podemos olvidar tampoco a\u00a0Oscar<\/a> que nos fabric\u00f3 las banderas en tiempo record, qu\u00e9 pena, no pudimos guardar ni una de recuerdo.<\/p>\n

It was our first foray with lights in London and was very excited about, we had spent several months talking with Spain Now<\/a>, an exemplar organization of cultural management, which is responsible for demonstrating in London, that in Spain, in spite of everything, there are creative people doing interesting things and that they deserve to be recognized outside our own borders.<\/p>\n

They took a chance on us by inviting us to carry out an installation that would inaugurate their cultural programming for 2013, so we spent months talking about the project\u2026 it was going to be something representative of the way we work, simple to assemble, participatory, and without leaving out the visual impact and the message\u2026 in the end, the same as always\u2026<\/p>\n

But it could not be, for the simple reason that it coincided with the inauguration of Frieze, one of the most well known vanity art fairs, that moves more money and attracts more \u201cbeautiful\u201d people \u00abpretty\u00bb under the guise of art.<\/p>\n

This fair must be quite disturbed by the idea that other artistic initiatives may take away a minuscule part of their prominence, and use their influence to ensure that this does not happen, such that, the people that grant permission for installations in public spaces refused us, 2 weeks before the event.<\/p>\n

Quite angry with the all-powerful fair, we decided to invade their domain and perform a small act of sabotage, or throw a tantrum, not particularly hurtful but one that would reflect our displeasure regarding the unexpected situation.<\/p>\n

Taking advantage of the confidence that the organization had shown in us, and without telling them too much about what we were up to, to avoid unsettling them unnecessarily, we prepared our subversive materials and travelled loaded with pirate flags to the country of Sir Francis Drake.<\/p>\n

We asked only that they convene, by means of social networks, friends who had to go to a meeting point near the fair, at night, without specifying what they had to do.<\/p>\n

For our Pirate Landing in London<\/strong><\/span> we had 200 black flags, embossed with disturbing skulls, and lit with small lights, we wanted to graphically illustrate what we thought of the people who organize such fairs\/business, in which the artistic quality is subordinated by the whims of the most purely speculative market.<\/p>\n

With these harmless weapons of protest, on the night of October 16, and we were in Regent\u2019s Park, where a great group of friends were waiting for us, almost all Spaniards, willing to help us with whatever it was, and whatever the conditions were.<\/p>\n

At 10 o’clock at night, the people were still leaving the inauguration of Frieze and we decided that it was time to begin to put up our barricade of pirate flags, attaching them to the park\u2019s perimeter hedgerow.<\/p>\n

We had already succeeded in placing 170, when we saw that they were disappearing at blistering speeds behind our backs. We went back to see what was happening, and we came face to face with security personnel from the fair, who were struggling to make the embarrassing flags disappear.<\/p>\n

They asked us for the installation permits, and when we told them that we didn\u2019t have them and that we had responded to an anonymous call for a meeting on the internet, they demanded that we remove everything that was still installed or they would call the police immediately. Without any words, we dropped the material and we started to walk away, with all our dignity and without looking back, as if we were invited to the fair and now we were going home, after a hard day of art and business\u2026<\/p>\n

Being such a rapid intervention, we couldn’t get the best photographic material, but we hope that the images that Gustavo Sanabria<\/a> took that night help to illustrate our troublemaking guerrilla action.<\/p>\n

We want to give a million thanks to all our friends from Spain Now, who helped and supported us, trusting without questioning Antonio (we hope we haven’t been a big problem for you), Elisa, Toni, Nina\u2026 a pleasure working with you. To dear Koldo<\/a> for whom this installation served as a baptism of fire for their subsequent collaboration in Durham, to all the volunteers who came without hesitation to answer our mysterious call and to our beloved Cris, who came back to work with us once more, in the generous way he has of doing so. Nor can we forget Oscar<\/a> who manufactured the flags for us in record time, what a pity, we could not save even one souvenir.<\/p>\n
