Seres diminutos sobreviven en la ciudad / Tiny beings survive in the city

When we were small, all of us thought that small beings whose lives we observed through the screen lived inside the television. In no time at all, we convinced ourselves that these characters with extraordinary customs and tiny dimensions did not exist, that they were only a product of our imaginations.

We have continued to think of them, it’s normal, they accompanied us in our childhood helping us to understand the world and many times we have asked ourselves where they ended up.

The night of March 16th, we went out to look for them and after much investigating, we ended up finding them, not in luxury villas enjoying a relaxing retirement, but forgotten and living poorly in marginal urban spaces.

They were everywhere, hidden in rubbish bins, in mailboxes, in the trunks of trees, inside the traffic signals, in public sculptures, in the hard asphalt, in garbage bags, in containers and in the interiors of granite benches, as well as many in forgotten fountains. The years and the new technologies have treated them badly, leaving them in the most precarious situations.

Well, actually all this is pure fiction, but it is true that the night of March 16th, the center of Madrid was full of mysterious signals, which pointed out that there were people living in the depths of the urban furniture.

The installation was called Someone lives there and to carry it out, we simply used 50 ventilation grilles, with lights attached, with which we surprised the people wandering about the city during those hours, in search of, possibly, those little television beings from their lost childhood.

The photos, as always, are by Gustavo Sanabria.
