«Low Cost Lamps» is a creative exercise in which we explore the aesthetic and functional possibilities of everyday objects through light. Through this series, we seek to bring value to hum

ble and often overlooked materials, transforming them into striking luminous elements within public spaces of significant architectural and social value.

We had previously conceived a light fixture made from recycled plastic bags, and this time we have chosen the colander— a basic and functional object that, despite its apparent simplicity, comes in countless models, shapes, and colors on the market, all of them incredibly affordable. However, by decontextualizing them, changing their original use, and placing them in a high-value setting, they acquire new meaning, elevating them from the utilitarian to the artistic.

Suspended from the ceiling by cables, the lamps are arranged organically, forming a floating cluster of vibrant colors. The light filters through the small perforations of each piece, projecting a pattern of glowing dots into the space, creating an unexpected, striking, and perhaps surreal atmosphere.

This project challenges the notion that design and lighting must be expensive to be beautiful or functional. With «Low Cost Lamps», we invite viewers to reconsider ordinary objects from a new perspective, transforming everyday functionality into an artistic experience.

This idea is from 2013 but we will continue adding new lamps to the catalog as we find materials that are sufficiently basic and underappreciated to be transformed into surprising luminous pieces. We remain committed to exploring the relationship between the everyday and the artistic, reinterpreting common objects and giving them an unexpected presence in communal spaces.

«Lámparas de Bajo Coste» es un ejercicio creativo en el que exploramos las posibilidades estéticas y funcionales de objetos cotidianos a través de la luz. Mediante esta serie, buscamos revalorizar materiales humildes y pasados por alto, transformándolos en sorprendentes elementos lumínicos dentro de espacios públicos de gran valor arquitectónico y social.

Ya habíamos concebido una luminaria a partir de bolsas de plástico recicladas, y en esta ocasión hemos elegido el escurridor, un objeto básico y funcional que, a pesar de su aparente simplicidad, cuenta con innumerables modelos, formas y colores en el mercado, todos ellos increíblemente económicos. Sin embargo, al descontextualizarlos, cambiando su uso original y situándolos en un entorno de alto valor, adquieren un nuevo significado, elevándolos de lo utilitario a lo artístico.

Las lámparas, suspendidas del techo mediante cables, se disponen de manera orgánica, formando un racimo flotante de colores vibrantes. La luz, filtrándose a través de los pequeños orificios de cada pieza, proyecta un patrón de puntos brillantes en el espacio, generando una atmósfera inesperada, sorprendente y quizás surrealista.

Este proyecto desafía la noción de que el diseño y la iluminación deben ser costosos para resultar bellos o funcionales. Con «Lámparas de Bajo Coste», invitamos al espectador a reconsiderar los objetos ordinarios desde una nueva perspectiva, convirtiendo la cotidianidad en arte y la funcionalidad en una experiencia estética.

Esta idea es del 2013 pero iremos incorporando nuevas lámparas al catálogo a medida que encontremos materiales lo suficientemente básicos y poco apreciados como para transformarlos en piezas luminosas sorprendentes. Seguimos explorando la relación entre lo cotidiano y lo artístico, resignificando objetos comunes y dotándolos de una presencia inesperada en entornos de uso comunitario.
