Postcards from the War 3/4.King Louis XIV Statue. Musee du LouvreWe thought all wars were fought far away but now we are having one right at the gates of our secure frontiers.

We are now scared as we witness our world of interconnected economies being shaken by the blast wave.

Our brains are drilled by many images of destruction which are touching us to the core. However, some of them are quite inspiring and refer us to the natural need of people to protect their lives and the lives of their families, their sovereignty and their cultural heritage.

As we see Ukrainian military personnel, citizens and volunteers protecting their cultural heritage against the bombs, we cannot help but think what the fate of our most beloved monuments would be if we were to preserve them from the enemy’s attacks.

And that is what we have done: picture that and add it light. We are sure that some of the monuments we have chosen, have been intervened in past wars. Now it would be unthinkable that this could happen again. However —

One thing is certain: the Monument to Duke of Richelieu in Odessa, dressed in white sandbags, is the most impressive monument to remember the war by. This piece was created to give an account of the past and now it has been intervened thanks to the collective willingness of citizens who are also concerned about their own cultural identity.
