Consumerist Christmas Tree / Árbol de navidad consumista. Abuja, Nigeria 2022

Our Consumerist Christmas Tree was built by the NGO SESCI/Stop Don’t Drop in Abuja, Nigeria, using their own resources and receiving our technical supervision.

In its construction, recycled plastic bags were used which were collected by local neighbors from their own daily consumption and also from local businesses and shopping malls which kindly donated their surplus of plastic. PVC and metal pipes were employed to make the structure. LED light bulbs and strips were used for the lighting.

We are proud to see it built and glowing. We hope it gives food for thought to those who come to visit it.

It may not be the most perfect piece in our career, but it is definitely the most authentic.

Thanks to all the Abuja volunteers who contributed to this piece, to the organization and to the volunteers who made this possible. All our admiration to them for having made up with ingenuity for the lack of material means. We wish we had the same level of ingenuity in our work.

Nuestro Árbol de Navidad Consumista ha sido construido por la ONG SESCI stop don’t drop en Abuja Nigeria, usando sus propios recursos y bajo nuestra supervisión técnica. 

Para su creación, se han usado bolsas de plástico reciclados recolectados por vecinos del propio consumo local y también en las tiendas y centros comerciales de la zona que amablemente han donado sus plásticos sobrantes. Además, para crear la estructura se emplearon tubos de pvc y metal y para la iluminación se han empleado bombillas de bajo consumo y tiras de luz.

Y es un orgullo para nosotros verlo construido y luciendo, ojalá sirva para hacer pensar a todos los que se acerquen a visitarlo.

Quizás no sea la pieza más perfecta de nuestra trayectoria pero si la más auténtica.

Gracias a todos los voluntarios de Abuja que has colaborado, a la organización y a los voluntarios por hacerlo posible. Toda nuestras admiración por haber suplido con ingenio la falta de medios materiales, ojalá pudiéramos llegar a su nivel de ingenio en nuestro trabajo.
