A Plastic Fountain for a Waterless Future / Fuente plástica para un futuro sin agua

Every time we are taken by apocalyptic visions of ordinary places invaded by plastic, it comes to no surprise that this material is embedded in our landscape.

This time we imagined it inside ornamental fountains taking the place of water and blending with its leaping jets.

This is an easy and graphic piece, so it requires no explanations. This is how we think street artworks should be in order to reach all the publics.

In order to create this Plastic Fountain for a Waterless Future, we will use a waterless ornamental fountain. We will also collect plastic from local businesses, shred it, and form large strips by assembling the parts to achieve the required length. There will be a mesh structure located at the base of the fountain in order to tie the plastic strips to it, the latter being arranged at different heights and separations. Under it, we will place powerful fans to keep the plastic shreds standing and moving like leaping water. For the illumination, we will just use the fountain’s beams.

Siempre nos asaltan visiones apocalípticas de espacios cotidianos invadidos por el plástico, no es de extrañar, que este material lo tenemos incrustado en el paisaje.

Esta vez nos lo imaginamos dentro de fuentes ornamentales, instalado en ellas, ocupando el espacio asignado al agua y mimetizándose con sus chorros saltarines.

Una pieza esta fácil y visualmente explícita que no requiere de explicaciones, como a nosotros nos parece que deben ser las obras que se exhiben en la calle y llegan a todos los públicos.

Para llevar a cabo Fuente plástica para un futuro sin agua usaremos una fuente ornamental vacía de agua. Plástico recolectado del consumo local y que convertiremos en largar tiras, a base de unir piezas hasta conseguir el largo necesitado. Estructura de malla situadas en la base de la fuente que nos servirá para atar a ella las tiras de plástico, organizadas en distintas alturas y separaciones. Debajo de ella, situaremos potentes ventiladores que permitirán mantener los jirones de plástico erguidos y en movimiento, cual agua saltarina. Para iluminar, simplemente se emplearemos los focos de la fuente.
