Aprovechando la visita del Comité Olímpico Internacional a Madrid, para evaluar la «situación» de nuestra ciudad como candidata a organizar los Juegos del 2020, nos echamos a la calle con nuestras luces, para manifestar nuestro rechazo a convertirnos en sede de este evento de la vergüenza, que no sólo no va a reportar ningún beneficio económico a los ciudadanos, (sí a los empresarios del ladrillo), sino que además va a provocar que nos hundamos un poco más en el abismo del déficit presupuestario que ya está concluyendo en preocupantes recortes en cultura, sanidad, educación…
Para llevar a cabo la protesta, nos dirigimos a un bien conocido parque, abandonado durante su construcción, y que amenazan con reconvertir en equipamiento olímpico quitándoselo a los vecinos, y que seguro, una vez terminado el evento, languidecerá como el resto de infraestructuras ya construidas, que ahora se encuentran infrautilizadas, por no decir abandonadas.
Durante un mes, estuvimos recopilando botellas de cristal, recicladas de bares próximos a nuestras casas, hasta conseguir unas 500 unidades que limpiamos de etiquetas y preparamos cuidadosamente, con la intención de darles el aspecto de amenazadores cócteles molotov.
Nuestra instalación «Juegos Olímpicos como estrategia de destrucción» se instaló la noche del 18 de marzo, y consistió en la creación de los 5 aros, de 2 metros de diámetro, dibujados con botellas/cócteles, en las que el combustible se sustituyó por agua coloreada y la mecha prendió, no con peligroso fuego, sino con cálida luz led.
Y ahí dejamos la pieza, con la intención de que la visita olímpica se topara con ella a lo largo de su recorrido de inspección. No estamos seguros si lo conseguimos pero a los pocos días fuimos a comprobar si aún seguía para retirarla, y ya no quedaba rastro de ella…
Nos preguntamos si nuestros dirigentes se habrán parado a pensar que con todos los sacrificios presupuestarios que estaremos obligados a asumir para cubrir las exigencias del COI, probablemente tendremos costosas infraestructuras, pero no habrá deportistas capacitados para competir en ellas, ya que las futuras generaciones no tendrán ni una educación específica, ni salud, ni dinero, para prepararse o habrán tenido que marcharse fuera de España, para poder desarrollarse como profesionales de élite…
Ojalá este megalómano evento finalmente no tenga lugar en nuestra querida ciudad.
Gracias a nuestros amigos de La Selva, Bufalino, Passenger, Mezklum, Hawai, Portomarín, por guardarnos sus botellas, y a Liévana y Alex que estuvieron ayudándonos durante la complicada instalación, en la que además de pasar un mes preparando el material, nos obligó a permanecer 6 horas a la intemperie, en una fría y húmeda noche del mes de marzo.

Taking advantage of the International Olympic Commitee visit to Madrid, to evaluate the “situation” of our city as a candidate to organize the 2020 Games, we went out into the street with our lights, to demonstrate our opposition to becoming the headquarters of these event of shame, that not only are not going to bring about any economic benefit to the citizens, (except for the construction industry), but are also going to cause us to sink a little further into the abyss of the budget deficit that is already causing worrying cuts in culture, health, education…
To carry out the protest, we headed to a well known park, abandoned during its construction, and that they are proposing to reconvert into an Olympic site taking it away from the citizens, and which will surely, once the event has finished, will languish like the rest of the already constructed infrastructure, which is now underused, so as not to say abandoned..
For a month, we collected glass bottles, recycled from bars close to our houses, until we had about 500 units which we cleaned of labels and carefully prepared, with the intention of giving them the appearance of menacing Molotov cocktails.
Our installation “Olympic Games as a strategy for destruction” was carried out on the night of March 18th, and consisted of the creation of the 5 rings, 2 meters in diameter, made up of bottles/cocktails, in which the fuel was replaced with colored water and the wick burned, not with dangerous fire, but with the warm light of an LED.
And there we left the piece, with the intention that the Olympic visitors would come across it during their inspection tour. We are not sure if we achieved it but after a few days we went to see if it still remained in order to remove it, and there was no sign of it…
We ask ourselves if our leaders have stopped to think that with all the budget sacrifices that we are forced to accept in order to meet the demands of the IOC, we will probably have expensive infrastructure, but there won’tl be any athletes capable of competing in them as the future generations won’t have the specific education, or health, or money, to prepare themselves or would have had to leave Spain, so that they can develop as elite professionals…
Hopefully, in the end, this megalomaniac event does not take place in our beloved city.
