El pasado mes de mayo regresamos al Campo de la Cebada para llevar a cabo una instalación. Recordábamos la experiencia de la piscina con envases reciclados del año anterior y llegamos con el mismo ánimo de compartir un día de trabajo y diversión con los habitantes del espacio.
El agua volvió a llevarnos a este espacio, anteriormente ocupado por una piscina pública y que desde hace dos años sirve de plaza pública a vecinos y artistas que trabajan de manera desinteresada para darle vida. Desgraciadamente, la voluntad política, pronto hará de él, un mercado de lujo y ocio para turistas con alto poder adquisitivo, dejando el uso deportivo que tanto necesita el barrio, reducido al mínimo y desde luego lejos del alcance económico de los vecinos de la zona.
En este contexto, queríamos llevar a cabo nuestra instalación interactiva Lluvia profiláctica que no moja, con la que pretendíamos dejar un poco de agua iluminada en recuerdo de antiguos usos, esta vez pretendíamos hacerlo mediante gotas de agua cayendo sobre los restos deteriorados de cemento.
Para darle forma usamos preservativos, sí, preservativos, extragrandes y extrafuertes, a los que añadimos agua azul, para convertirlos en grandes gotas, con tacto y forma de pecho de silicona, muy agradables de palpar y apretar. Con ellos creamos un espacio cúbico, delimitado por gotas suspendidas en el que uno se podía sumergir y acariciar, escuchando el suave sonido del agua moviéndose.
Gracias a la magia de la luz y el agua, conseguimos convertir 800 vulgares preservativos, en un refugio sensorial y relajante, apto para todos los públicos.
Durante un día trabajamos en la instalación, ayudados por niños y no tan niños, que se acercaban atraídos por los apetecibles «globos» y que animosamente acabaron integrándose en una cadena de producción en la que cada uno era responsable de una parte del proceso.
Los ayudantes más pequeñines pensaban que estaban haciendo globos de agua que luego servirían para tirarse unos a otros, los niños algo mayores se preguntaban por la extraña forma y estaban entusiasmados toqueteándolos y jugando con ellos intentando que no se les escurrieran de las manos, los adultos se reían pícaramente y no podían evitar pellizcar la superficie y tocar con auténtico deleite.
Pasado los primeros minutos de bromas y risas, todos acabaron asumiendo que manipular condones era como cualquier otra actividad de la vida cotidiana, y eso, en definitiva, era lo que queríamos conseguir con todo esto.
Dejamos la instalación durante toda la noche del sábado, sin saber exactamente lo que pasaría al día siguiente que había celebración en La Cebada. Cuando volvimos, el domingo por la tarde, descubrimos que los niños no habían podido resistir la tentación de divertirse, jugando con ella como si de una piñata con luminosas sorpresas en su interior se tratara.
Habían montado una fiesta delirante, en la que un niño con palo largo rompía las gotas, tarea bastante complicada por cierto, ya que los preservativos eran verdaderamente resistentes, mientras otros, más pequeños se precipitaban a buscar las luces que caían precipitándose con el agua azul.
Por supuesto, no teníamos nada que objetar a tan lúdico final, así que nos fuimos encantados, con la promesa de volver al día siguiente a recoger los restos de la batalla. Antes de marchar advertimos a los padres, que debían reciclar las baterías una vez gastadas, ya que aunque las que usamos son de litio y contaminan poco, es imprescindible tirarlas al contenedor de pilas.
Queremos agradecer a toda la gente que coordinan las actividades del Campo de la Cebada, el que fueran capaces de hacernos un hueco en la repleta agenda del espacio, a pesar de avisar con tan poco tiempo. También a los amigos que incondicionalmente nos siguen en tan estrafalarias y trabajosas actividades y sobre todo a los increíbles ayudantes de todas las edades, que tan profesionalmente hicieron posible que la instalación luciera con tan buen aspecto. In the month of May we returned to Campo de la Cebada a to carry out an installation. We were reminded of our experience with the pool made from recycled packaging of the previous year and we arrived with the same spirit of sharing a day of work and fun with the inhabitants of the space.
Water has brought us to this space once again, formerly occupied by a public swimming pool and which since two years ago serves as a public square for neighbors and artists who work in an unselfish way to bring it to life. Unfortunately, political will it will soon turn it into a luxury and leisure market for tourists with lots of purchasing power, removing it from the sports use that the neighborhood needs so much, which has been reduced to a minimum and is certainly far above the economic means of the residents of the area.
In this context, we wanted to carry out our interactive installation Prophylactic rain that doesn’t wet anything, with which we intended to leave a little lighted water in memory of former uses, this time we wanted to do it with drops of water falling on the deteriorated remnants of cement.
To give them shape we used condoms, yes, condoms, extra large and extra strength, to which we added blue colored water, to turn them into big drops, with feel and form of silicone breasts, very pleasant to touch and squeeze. With them we created a square space, delimited by suspended droplets in which one could immerse themselvesand touch them, listening to the gentle sound of the moving water.
Thanks to the magic of light and water, we were able to convert 800 common condoms, into a sensory and relaxing refuge, suitable for all audiences.
For a day we worked on the installation, aided by both children and the not so young, who approached attracted by the tempting «balloons» and who ended up happily integrating themselves into a production line in which each was responsible for a part of the process.
The youngest of our helpers thought they were making water balloons that would then serve to throw at each other, the slightly older kids were wondering about the strange shape and were excited about touching them and playing with them trying to make sure they did not slip out of their hands, the adults were laughing mischievously and could not stop themselves from pinching the surface and touching them with pure delight.
After the first few minutes of jokes and laughter had passed, everyone ended up accepting that manipulating condoms was like any other activity of daily life, and that, ultimately, was what we wanted to achieve through all of this.
We left the installation throughout the night of Saturday, without knowing exactly what would happen the next day when there was a celebration in La Cebada. When we returned on Sunday afternoon, we discovered that the children had not been able to resist the temptation of having fun, playing with the installation as if it were a piñata with shiny surprises in its interior.
They had had a delirious celebration, in which a child with long stick broke open the drops, surely a rather complicated task, as the condoms were truly resistant, while others, smaller ones scurried in search of the lights that fell out with the rush of blue colored water.
Of course, we had no objection to such a playful ending, so we were very happy, with a promise to return the next day to pick up the remains of the battle. Before leaving we advised the parents, that they should recycle the batteries once spent, even though the ones we use are lithium and they are not as contaminating, it is imperative to put them into the container for used batteries.
We want to thank all of the people who coordinate the activities at the Campo de la Cebada, that were able to make some room in the packed agenda of that space, despite such short notice. Also to the friends that unconditionally follow us in our quirky and laborious activities and especially to the amazing helperss of all ages, that so professionally made it possible for the installation to shine with such a great appearance.
