Laberinto de residuos plásticos / Labyrinth of plastic waste

Queremos que la gente sea consciente de los residuos plásticos que genera en su vida diaria, más de lo que sospechamos, eso seguro. En paises más evolucionados estos serán reciclados convenientemente pero en una gran mayoría, se quedarán por los siglos de los siglos en vertederos, sin posiblidad de ser destruirlos.

Para visibilizar este problema, hemos pensado en una instalación hecha con residuos plásticos generados por los habitantes de la ciudad.

Para llevarla a cabo, pedimos a los vecinos que durante una semana selecciones los objetos de plastico que vayan a tirar, preferiblemente transparentes, botellas, embases, plástico de envolver, vasos… los límpien y los metan en bolsas transparente de asa que distribuiremos para ese fin, cuando nos entreguen cada bolsa, nosotros le entregaremos entradas para algun museo, teatro o actividad cultural de la ciudad.

En el momento de entregar las bolsas, además les haremos una foto, que colocaremos a la vista dentro de la bolsas transparente, esto servirá para identificar cada bolsa con su dueño.

Así pues los elementos con los que trabajararemos serán, residuos plásticos transparentes, dentro de bolsas transparente, identificadas con la foto del dueño de los objetos. Además insertaremos luces autónomas en todas las bolsas de manera que se transmita uniformemente por el plástico contenido en su interior.

Para la construcción de la pieza, usaremos tubos de andamos, de los más comunes que se utilizan en las obras, con ellos daremos forma a un laberinto, con pasillos transitables que permitan a la gente internarse y pasear por él.

Con la estructura construida, añadiremos tubos horizontales sobre los que irán insertadas las bolsas, de manera que todo el laberinto quede forrado de plástico con luz.

Durante la noche se invitará a la gente a pasear buscando sus propios residuos o encontrando los de sus amigos y familiares.

Tanto la recolecta de material como la cosntrucción de la pieza se hará con ayuda de todos los voluntarios que nos quieran ayudar.

We want people to be aware of the plastic waste generated in their daily lives, which is more than we suspect, for sure. In more developed countries these will be conveniently recycled but in the vast majority, they will remain in a landfill for centuries, without the possibility of being destroyed.

To highlight this problem, we have thought of an installation made up of plastic waste generated by the inhabitants of the city.

To accomplish this mission, we will ask the residents to save the plastic objects that they are going to throw away for a week, preferably transparent bottles, packages, plastic wrap, glasses… they clean them and put them in transparent bags with handles which we will distribute for that purpose, when we deliver each bag to them, we will give them tickets to a museum, theater or cultural activity in the city.

When we deliver the bags, in addition we will take a photo of them, which we will put, where it can be seen, inside the transparent bags, this will serve to identify each bag with its owner.

Thus the elements that we work with will be, transparent plastic waste, within transparent bags, identified by the photo of the owner of the objects. In addition we will put autonomous lights in all the bags in such a way that the light is transmitted evenly throughout the plastic content in its interior.

For the construction of the piece, we’ll use scaffolding pipe, of the kind commonly used on worksites, with which we will give shape to the maze, with passable corridors that allow people to enter and walk around in it.

With the structure built, we will add horizontal tubes upon which the bags can be inserted, so that the whole labyrinth is lined with plastic light.

During the night the people will be invited to walk around looking for their own waste or to find that of their friends and family.

The collection of material as well as the construction of the piece will be done with the help of all the volunteers who would like to help us.

Urban shadows / Sombras urbanas

A quién no le gusta hacer sombras chinescas a la luz de una linterna?. A nosotros desde luego nos encantaba de pequeños y sigue encantando ya creciditos, por lo que hemos decidido sacar nuestra aficion a la calle, en forma de instalación, para compartirla con otros.

Para ello hemos pensado en una pieza colaborativa en el que cada uno pueda crear sus propias siluetas que colgaremos en un tendido de linternas encendidas que durante una noche reflejarían sombras en el espacio público.

Para ellok, elegiremos una calle estrecha y peatonal, en la que instalaremos un tejadillo de malla de gallinero del que suspenderemos montones de linternas de distintos tipos y en distintas posiciones.

Dichas linternas llevarán incorporado un rudimentario sistema para anclar las siluetas, de manera que al encenderse las linternas la luz incida directamente sobre la cartulina negra generando las deseadas sombras.

Las siluetas serán creadas en talleres, organizados para ese fin o en colegios, espacios expositivos o centros sociales.

Los visitantes podrán sumergirse dentro de las instalación manipulando las linternas consiguiendo que las sombras proyectadas esté en movimiento continuo.

Al final de la velada cada «creador de siluetas» se podrá llevar la linterna con su correspondiente sombra para continuar con el juego en casa.

Who doesn’t like to make shadows by the light of a flashlight? We, of course, loved it as children and continue to love it as grown-ups, so we have decided to take our hobby out into the street, in the form of an installation, in order to share it with others..

To this end, we thought of a collaborative piece in which everyone can create their own silhouettes that we’ll hang from a network of hanging flashlights so that during the night shadows would be cast on the public space.

To carry this out, we will choose a narrow, pedestrian only street, in which we will hang a ceiling of chicken wire from we will suspend lots of different types of flashlights in different positions.

These flashlights will have a rudimentary system incorporated to anchor the silhouettes to, so that when the flashlights are lit the light will shine directly onto the black cardstock generating the desired shadows.

The silhouettes will be created in workshops, organized for that purpose either in schools, exhibition spaces or social centers.

Visitors will be able to immerse themselves within the installation, where by manipulating the flashlights, they will be able to keep the shadows they cast in continuous movement.

At the end of the evening each «silhouette creator» can carry off the flashlight with its corresponding shadow to continue the game at home

Celebrating public spaces / Celebrando el espacio público

We want to reclaim public space as a place for gathering and enjoyment, where we can pause, share, and express ourselves freely, without feeling pressured to consume. However, in Spain, with the Civil Security Law , something as simple as standing in front of a government building can lead to hefty fines or even arrests. These measures have turned the simple act of stopping in a shared public space into something that, inexplicably, can be interpreted as an offense.

Adding to this is the increasing occupation of public spaces by terraces and commercial zones, where you can only stay if you consume. If not, the only option seems to be to pass through quickly, without stopping, without inhabiting it. This reality limits the very essence of public space, which should be a free place for connection, rest, and celebration, beyond the dynamics imposed by consumerism.

It is becoming increasingly difficult to celebrate in spaces that seem reserved for the political and commercial interests of a few. But we won’t conform. Let’s throw a party!

That’s why we created «Celebrating Public Space», an artistic intervention that turns the ordinary into the extraordinary through light and reflections. Benches, fountains, street lamps, bollards, and pavements are covered in small mirrors, projecting glimmers that transform the surroundings into a kaleidoscope of constantly shifting lights. Mobile spotlights, mounted on tripods, sway with the wind, bathing the entire space in beams of light that seem to dance and change with each moment.

At night, visitors are invited to join with flashlights or headlamps, creating their own reflections and leaving their light imprint in a space that becomes interactive and alive. This proposal aims to restore the original purpose of public space: to be a place for gathering, enjoyment, and expression, not merely a thoroughfare or a place conditioned by consumption.

The installation is fully reversible and ephemeral, designed to respect the environment and disappear once it concludes. But its message endures: every glimmer of light is a reminder that the city belongs to all of us and that celebrating together, without restrictions or impositions, is a form of peaceful and creative resistance.

Queremos recuperar el espacio público como un lugar de encuentro y disfrute, donde podamos detenernos, compartir y expresarnos libremente, sin sentirnos obligados a consumir. Sin embargo, en España, con la Ley de Seguridad Ciudadana , algo tan sencillo como permanecer frente a un edificio gubernamental puede convertirse en motivo de multas desmesuradas o incluso arrestos. Este tipo de medidas ha convertido el simple hecho de detenerse en un espacio común en un acto que, incomprensiblemente, puede interpretarse como una infracción.

A esto se suma la creciente ocupación del espacio público por terrazas y zonas comerciales, donde solo puedes permanecer si consumes. Si no es así, parece que solo queda la opción de atravesar el lugar rápidamente, sin detenerse, sin habitarlo. Esta realidad limita la esencia misma del espacio público, que debería ser un lugar libre para convivir, descansar y celebrar, más allá de las dinámicas impuestas por el consumo.

Cada vez es más difícil celebrar en espacios que parecen estar reservados a los intereses políticos y comerciales de unos pocos. Pero no nos conformamos. ¡Hagamos fiesta!

Por eso hemos creado «Celebrando el Espacio Público», una intervención artística que convierte lo cotidiano en extraordinario mediante luz y reflejos. Bancos, fuentes, farolas, bolardos y pavimento se cubren de pequeños espejos, proyectando destellos que transforman el entorno en un caleidoscopio de luces en constante movimiento. Los focos móviles, montados sobre trípodes, se mueven con el viento, bañando todo el espacio con haces de luz que parecen bailar y cambiar a cada instante.

Por la noche, los visitantes son invitados a sumarse con linternas o luces frontales, creando sus propios reflejos y dejando su huella de luz en un espacio que se vuelve interactivo y vivo. Esta propuesta busca devolverle al espacio público su propósito original: ser un lugar de encuentro, disfrute y expresión, no solo un paso obligado ni un lugar condicionado al consumo.

La instalación es completamente reversible y efímera, pensada para respetar el entorno y desaparecer al finalizar. Pero su mensaje perdura: cada destello de luz es un recordatorio de que la ciudad nos pertenece a todos y que celebrar juntos, sin restricciones ni imposiciones, es una forma de resistencia pacífica y creativa.

Phantom car demonstration in public areas / Manifestación de coches fantasma en el espacio público

Nos gustaría tanto que desaparecieran los coches aparcados del centro de las ciudades que hemos pensado una solución alternativa que mejores su molesta presencia.

La acción tiene dos posibles ubicaciones, la primera sería meter en una plaza, normalmente cerrada al tráfico, gran cantidad de coches, todos los que cupieran, de manera que se formaran pequeños pasillos en los que la gente pudiera transitar y esconderse, para jugar al escondite en un laberinto casi opresivo.

Para restar presencia a los vehículos y que «casi» desaparezcan de la escena, los llenaremos de luces autónomas y los cubriremos con fundas desechables de las que se usan en los talleres de reparación, de color blanco y tejido translucido, de manera que la luz de los focos con los que hemos cubierto la carrocería, se filtren entre el tejido creando siluetas de luz fantasmal.

Así el escenario se llenará de misteriosas presencias que durante una noche nos habrían desear que los coches se desintegraran en el espacio público de la ciudad.

La segunda posible ubicación podría ser una calle principal y larga, llena de coches aparcados en ambas aceras. Les daríamos el mismo tratamiento de luz con las fundas blancas y los focos.

Por supuesto, los coches deberían ser cedidos por una noche por voluntarios, después se les devolvería iluminados y con funda de regalo.

We would like very much that parked cars disappear from the center of cities, so we designed an alternative solution that improves their troublesome presence.

The action has two possible locations, the first would be to put a great number of cars, as many as would fit, into a square, normally closed to traffic, in such a way as to form small passageways where people could walk and hide, to play hide and seek in a somewhat oppressive maze.

To take away from presence of the vehicles so that they «almost» disappear from the scene, we would fill them with autonomous lights of and cover them with disposable car covers of the type used in the repair shops, of white, translucent fabric, in such a way that the light which we have covered the body with, filters through the cloth creating ghostly silhouettes of light

Thus the space will be filled with mysterious presences that during one night would make us wish that cars would disappear from the public spaces in the city.

The second possible location could be on a long main street, filled with parked cars along both sidewalks. Would give them the same treatment, with the white covers and the lights..

Of course, the cars would have to be given to us voluntarily for one night, later they would be returned, illuminated and with the cover as a gift.

Repasando proyectos no realizados/ Reviewing projects not carried out yet

Antes de empezar a mostraos nuevos proyectos para el 2014, queríamos hacer un repaso a otros no llevados aun a cabo pero que seguimos empeñados en convertir en realidad lo antes posible. Esperamos que de este año no pase.

La estupendas ilustraciones son de Marta Menacho que lleva trabajando con nosotros desde que empezamos y gracias a ella hemos dado forma real a casi todas nuestras ideas.

Before beginning to show you our new projects for 2014, we wanted to review the others which still have not been carried out, but we remain committed to making them reality as soon as possible. We hope that this year won’t go by without them being done.
